Roxy Dog, Cru, Wins at Westminster

Just when you think a Roxy™ dog can’t be more of a superstar, a pupper — a BIG pupper — like Cru comes along.

Owned by Andrea Dadigan, Cru, a Leonberger, is 2.5 years old and still growing at 150 lbs. He is the third Leonberger Andrea has brought to Roxy™ Therapy Dogs.

Lots of Love to Spread Around

Andrea and Cru have a busy volunteer schedule.

For Roxy Therapy Dogs, they read with Mrs. Rosztoczy’s third-grade class at Buckingham Elementary, visit the Bucks County Courthouse, attend community events, and are members of the Roxy™ Responders Trauma Response Team, which Andrea directs. (More about Roxy’s programs here.) And they have only been volunteering for 18 months!

Andrea and Cru also volunteer (outside of Roxy) at Doylestown Health, where they visit stroke support groups, attend cancer center events, honor special visitor requests, and assist staff support programs at the hospital’s Children’s Village.

Two Spotlights at Westminster

Cru, The Therapy Dog

Westminster is aired on Fox Sports, and when the producers learned that Cru was a therapy dog, they wanted to film him in action. Andrea was very excited about the prospect (as anyone would be!) and had to act fast to get the locations and permissions in place for the Fox Sports crew to film.

“It was awesome!!!” Andrea said. “They flew a crew of 10 in from California with cameras, lighting, and even hair and makeup 😀.”

Cru, The Show Dog

This was Cru’s first time at Westminster, and he shone in the show ring with his handler, Michelle Scott. True to Cru, he handled all the fuss and flurry running up to the event with aplomb and then grabbed himself a few “trinkets” to take home, including the “Select” ribbon (essentially third place) from a field of 12 Leonbergers.

Cru brings home a Westminster ribbon befitting his size.

Time to Go Home

After all the excitement, Cru is happy to be home, cuddling next to his Leonberger brother, Lowen, at home on the couch and getting back to his therapy dog work. Cru is one popular guy!

Show dog or not, Cru is most happy when one of his friends reads to him.
