Bucks County Bar Association Supports Courthouse Companionship Program

Stuffed "Roxy puppies" like this are given to children who are about to testify at the Courthouse.

Consistent with its charitable mission, which includes fostering protection under rule of law, the Bucks County Bar Foundation recently agreed to fund the acquisition of 500 stuffed “Roxy dogs” to support Roxy™ Therapy Dogs’ Courthouse Companionship program

Roxy Therapy Dogs is a volunteer-operated 501(c)(3) organization that provides comfort and support to children in Bucks County through the use of certified therapy dogs. One of the organization’s six programs, Courthouse Companionship, provides teams to greet often at-risk children who testify in the Bucks County Court of Common Pleas, comfort them as they wait to testify, and occasionally join them in the witness box during testimony.

While the dogs and their handlers are the stars of the Courthouse Program, kids are given take-aways as well – the favorite of which is a stuffed animal “Roxy” dog, featuring a smiling face, a soft texture, and a recognizable therapy dog outfit. Roxy distributes nearly 250 stuffed animal dogs every year at the Courthouse. This year’s purchase by the Bar Association will cover two year’s supply.

Roxy is grateful for the Bucks County Bar Association’s financial assistance and commitment to the Courthouse Program. By working together, we can help kids manage these stressful and emotionally charged situations a little better.
