Literacy for All Program
Roxy Therapy Dogs supports the elementary school students of Central Bucks through our Literacy for All Program.
The Literacy for All Program, our flagship program, started in 2005 with one certified therapy dog and one class at one school. (Read our story here.) Since then our Literacy for All Program has grown to include over 50 of our 77 therapy dog teams and is our largest program. Providing close to 4,000 volunteer hours per school year, our teams, each consisting of a handler/owner and a certified therapy dog, visit over 115 classrooms and see over 2,000 students every week across the Central Bucks School District (CBSD).
Children look forward to their visits from our Roxy Therapy Dogs as they know it is their chance to practice reading to the dogs, become more comfortable with their fluency and comprehension, and become more confident reading aloud.
Roxy Therapy Dogs enjoy visiting their friends at Buckingham, Butler, Bridge Valley, Cold Spring, Doyle, Gayman, Groveland, Jamison, Kutz, Linden, Mill Creek, Pine Run, Titus and Warwick Elementary Schools. Our teams visit all types of classes including Main Stream, Learning Support, Autistic Support and Multiple Disability classes. All Roxy Therapy Dogs classroom visits are free of charge to CBSD as our organization is made up solely of volunteers.
